Re: ESP32 with a tons of switch

Holy shit! 74HC138 is for 3 input and 8 outputs. not 8 to 3; 3 to 8!

datasheet: http://www.futurlec.com/74HC/74HC138.shtml

How about a 74HC148 instead?

datasheet: http://www.futurlec.com/74HC/74HC148.shtml

Sorry, I didn't check the datasheet.

Re: ESP32 with a tons of switch

First, put pull-ups on the buttons. That will assure that the value will be either Low or High for Up or Down. Second, observe bounce with a simple program that reads the inputs loop: (read, display 'U' or 'D') what you should see is:UUUUUUU DUDUDU DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. In the transition from U to D ...

Re: ESP32 with a tons of switch

My second thought is pull-ups. Do the mux inputs need a pull-up? pin<-->resistor<-->+ and pin<--> switch <--> gnd So, maybe 2 issues no-debounce and no-pull-ups. That will give you strange output on mux. In addition, your code is too complicated; clear, get bit (de-bounced), or, shift, get bit (de-b...

Re: ESP32 with a tons of switch

My first thought is key bounce.

Can you post a schematic?

Re: 9bit hardware serial is it possible

9N1 has a history in Arduino. I googled Arduino 9N1 and found a lot of information. What I learned was that 9N1 is not uncommon and sometimes implemented in the UART so the first step could be to check the esp32 uart capability. Life will be easier if the UART has the capability. The solution I sugg...

Re: 9 bit hardware serial is it possible (Yes)

Constantly changing parity!?? Your example does show both odd and even parity in a single transmission.

OK, if that is what you want begin() with odd then send 1 char then begin() and change to even and send 1 char...

I suspect that the example is incorrect.

Re: What would you like to see in The Next Chip?

Code compatibility: what runs on todays esp32/Arduino to still run on espNEXT/Arduino, No code changes needed. I did not mean between ESPidf and Arduino IDE. Virtual Memory: Be clever, only swap in program space (unchanging contents). By virtual memory I was describing the what: the impression of la...

Re: What would you like to see in The Next Chip?

1) Code compatibility with ESP32 Arduino. Pin changes OK with a map in documentation;

2) Virtual memory;

3) Smaller;

4) Less power used.

Configure ESP32 Preference Data with WiFi

I was inspired by a post by mzimmers to explore configuration of the esp32 through google chrome. The attraction was wide availability of chrome across os/hardware platforms; thus having access to chrome was all that was needed for configuaration. I already have a wifi/ap/web server for configuratio...

Re: MQTT FX - AP Mode

Easy: Use MQTT on your ESP32. You will find that there are MQTT libraries for ESP32 with examples, ... You will find tools bundled with the broker for: command line publish, subscribe. You will find support for MQTT for Java and many other languages for your PC. On your ESP32 you will need to enable...
