ESP-IDF V4.1 with modem over PPPoS not working [IDFGH-4248]

Hey all,

We are trying to update my project what is using ESP-IDF V3.3. We have a modem (SIM7000) and works with this version of the IDF. We need to upgrade to 4.x because of some security features and the use of Modbus master over RTU.

Problem is that the ppp protocol example doesn't work with ESP-IDF V4.1 (5d258af), I tried it also with V4.2 (f0e87c9), this seems to work fine. Problem we had on V4.1 is that we get an IP address from the network but after that no internet communication. Tried on both SIM7000 and BG96.

We want to upgrade but, V4.2 is not yet a stable release. What version do you suggest we use? Might V4.0 also an option?

I would suggest using v4.1, if you can wait for us to apply some important fixes to the release branch. Some fixes yet need to be backported to the v4.1, see the https://github.com/espressif/esp-idf/is ... -723657688 for the context and for testing locally.
