Is there a way to jump to the serial program code

I am working on a remote system connected to a computer I can remote into. I want to be able to send a command to thesytem via the serial port that will jump to the RST handler with flags for a download_boot. I would think there ought to be a way to do so.
Probably a new task that kills off all it siblings and then executes the interface initialization code from the serial program code.
But I do not have the correct visibility to see how that is done. Has anyone done this and willing to share code?
