esp32 burned ?

The esp32 probably burned. When switched on, the LEDs do not light and it starts to heat up horribly hot. What could cause this was connected to the extension board from the nodemcu which was powered by the 12v liion package (extension board in the attachment) I know that this extension board is not dedicated to esp32 but could it cause it to burn?
