Is the ESP32-T dev board compatible with ESP32-S module?

Postby electronicsguy » Thu May 04, 2017 4:08 am

Hello all,
Apologies if this has already been cleared up, I tried looking & found only 1 discussion on this: viewtopic.php?t=1116. There doesn't seem to be a clear answer. I bought this dev board on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT ... UTF8&psc=1. The manufacturer specs don't explicitly mention "ESP32-S". In fact they mention the 3212 module and I read somewhere else that that is pin-incompatible with ESP32-S.

So I'd really appreciate if someone could answer this definitively.

Thank you.

Yes esp-3212 is discontinued and its footprint is not compatible with esp-32s/esp-wroom32. But supposedly it can work with ebox maker module.

Sorry, what were you referring to when you said "it" can work with the ebox module? 3212 or esp32s? I need the latter to work. Have you used the same board?

I meant the ESP32-T dev board can work with the ebox maker module.

So is ESP32-S an ebox maker module? If not, it's still ambiguous.

No esp-32s is an ai-thinker module. Ebox module is called esp32-bit

ok, so to answer my Q: will ESP-32S definitely not work with this board, or it's still unknown?

V1 Won't work

But you could still use it as a programmer just put esp-32s on a different breakout board.

Thanks. Do you know exactly what won't work? Will it be damaged (wrong power lines) or will some specific I/O not work? Because this page: http://esp32.net/ lists the ESP32-T as compatible with all the 3 modules we listed above (in the section "Medium Development Boards/ebox".

So now I'm even more confused.

V1 has underside connection pads for the never released ESP3212 module.
V2 has underside connection pads for the ESP-WROOM-32/ESP-32S module. Also, V2 development board pinout differs from V1
So if you have v2 and it says esp-32s on the bottom then it will work. Sorry for confusion.
