can I use the EYE to recognize simple pattern like a square

I want to detect simple patterns with the ESP-EYE.
In the first step it could be a simple compare of a taken picture with one ore more known pictures.
Could I train the ESP-WHO with this pictures.
A example:
I have a white grid of 3x3 fields
I will place one black label on one of the fields
After I train the 9 different possible pictures
could I get he answer 1 to 9 from a taken picture?
Could it be solved by ESP-Who like it is or is a modification required?
Can anyone help me
