ESP32S3 deep sleep abnormal power consumption

Postby suqize » Sat Feb 08, 2025 10:31 am

Hi,I meet some problems with ESP32S3 deepsleep consumption.
modulE: ESP32-S3-WROOM-1 N8R2
test environment: ESP-IDF 5.1.2/ESP-IDF 5.4
using project: Deep-sleep routine example, block all wake-up sources, block WiFI and Bluetooth,PSRAM is not initialized. Menuconfig maintains all keep default values.
Board: The schematic diagram of the development board used is attached, and the circuit that uses an external 3.3V power supply has been removed. At present, the module directly connecting to 3.3V power supply, which can be understood as only the module consuming power.

Question:
1.During normal operation, the module current is 30mA, but after entering sleep, the current dropped to 3mA and the power consumption was abnormal, far from the 7uA specified in the manual. The module can automatically wake up periodically according to the set timer time, the deep-sleep function is normal.

2. The output current of the GPIO port of the measurement module is all below 1V.

3.On another board, the ESP32-S3FH4R2 chip was used to test deep-sleep, and the situation remained the same, with a sleep current of 3mA. When measuring the GPIO port, it was found that the GPIO 29/SPICS 0 pin was at a high level, and the current of the remaining GPIO was below 1V, suspecting that PSRAM has not yet powered off.

May I ask what is causing the abnormal sleep power consumption of ESP32-S3, and is it due to PSRAM?
thanks a lot!

me too.
I use ppkii to observe dynamic cureent consumtion and found that the current is not rise to 3-4mA immediately, but after for 800ms 0.7mA current consumption.
