Which IDE Do You Use for ESP-IDF? Please Vote
We're gathering feedback to understand which IDEs our users prefer for ESP-IDF development. This will help us focus our efforts on the tools that matter most to you. Please take a moment to vote!

That's a very good idea. I always found it pretty strange that Espressif spends so much work maintaining different IDE offers – the IDEA-based one, Arduino, and the VSCode-Extension.

It is really convenient to use ESP-IDF with VS Code ,for example, use OpenOCD for debugging.

it is not difficult to imagine that a possible commercial war result in windows machines, misbehaving
well, actually, current win11 is a snooping machine
anyone noticed how it is mandatory to have a microsoft account AND the push for "recall"
for your safety, obviously

Same. Old Eclipse with `make` was problematic to setup at first, but once figured out it worked well. Then `Cmake` was introduced and added some flaws. Now the `clang` was introduced with even more flaws. From my point of view new features are added, which I don't *directly* need, but also more flaws are added which disrupt my workflow and some are very annoying.I am still working to know which is the least painful.
I was pretty much forced at some point to switch to VSCode, which solves some issues, but adds its own. Like sdkconfig editor is far worse to navigate in VSCode than in Eclipse, for example. Or UI with those tiny icons at bottom bar..
Now using both, depending which annoys me the least at the time.

Re: Which IDE Do You Use for ESP-IDF?
I cannot use windows because reliability and spyware (windows itself)
I am on Linux devuan daedalus and eclipse has become shit, slow, really slow and keeps messing up the gui content
All it does is making things easy for a novice and really difficult for someone that knows what to do, basically, idiocracy
the latest ? I had to .metadata/.plugins$ rm -rf org.eclipse.e4.workbench/ to have it START since it did hang on boot
then, to attempt to limit the messing up I installed ONLY the tools I needed esp-adf/esp-idf$ ./install.sh esp32c6
all is nice from the console, can compile and flash, but eclipse does not work at all, BROKEN
the tools we have now are WORSE than the tools we had 20 years ago
DUMP what has been done in the last 20 years, it is an unreliable mess
