How does one ship RainMaker devices to customers?

Postby myglc2 » Thu Jul 23, 2020 9:19 pm

Does the QR Code generated during ESP32-S2 claiming need to be printed and attached to the device?

We tried Host Driven Claiming (ESP-32) which works great! Would anything additional be required to ship EP32?

TIA - George

Hi George,

End products should normally have a randomly generated proof of possession key programmed into them. A QR code should be generated during the manufacturing phase and preferably pasted on the product as well as packaging.
Would anything additional be required to ship EP32?
I did not quite understand this question. If this is about a commercial use case, please get in touch over email at esp-rainmaker-admin@espressif.com

Hi there!

I have been getting started with the ESP RainMaker recently. It is a really nice structured eco-system. However, after some experiments I've started to ask the similar questions as @myglc2 did:
How would I extract the PoP code at the manufacturing stage and have them stored in an inventory system? How to do this process automatic?
Then I've found this post. I think it would be nice add some tips o tricks on "how to provide the PoP to the end users" to the esp rainmaker documentation. This would help a lot to the device manufacturers.

Another cases; what if the final device will be installed in a container that would not be accessible by the end users. E.g. a tubular motor. In this case how a device manufacturer could ship the device with its PoP or QR code?

Can't you just change the pop variable from "RANDOM" to "CUSTOM"? There you can change it as you wish. You can change it in app_main.c and in driver_main.c. Then just upload it.

Seems I missed the previous message on this thread. For commercial devices, the ESP RainMaker Admin CLI is to be used to generate the manufacturing data partition for nodes in bulk. It also generates the QR code payload and png images that can be pasted on the device casing.

As mentioned in my previous comment, the QR code payload that shows up on serial terminal is also included in the artifacts generetaed by the RainMaker Admin CLI, used for manufacturing.
