flash download tool

I am trying to use the flash download tool for sn esp32. When I examine the bin file it is empty. What am I doing wrong

You need to give us a bit more information than that. How exactly are you using the flash download tool; what parameters are you filling in and what files are you using? What did you expect to happen? What did actually happen? How did you come to that conclusion?

I bought a esp32 board with other components which I have been looking for. Unfortunately there is no chip to link the USB data input to the esp32. I am using a USB to serial unit (FTDI) and following the instructions on the Expressif Flash Download Tool User Guide

The com port is recognised ok. when I follow the instructions everything seems ok until I try to download the files nothing happens. When I open the bin file which is part of the download from Expressif it is empty.
What am I missing?

The download package does not include any bin files besides the '"flash_download_tool_3.9.9_R2.exe" itself. All the folders (including "bin" folder) are empty by default.

Can you connect to the chip from the "chipInfoDump" tab and see some information like below?
