ESP32 using ESP_NOW channel problem

I have a ESP32 / ESP NOW problem with channels which has just reared its ugly head
i understand about nodes being on the same channel with esp_now and why BUT!!!

i have 2 Linksys mesh nodes which when optimised for channel in the app set themselves to different channels
As my nodes are in different parrts of the house, each node can (and sometimes will) log on through a different mesh node and hence a different channel which can and does cause confusion

as it looks as though there is no way to set the linksys nodes to the same channel then it means my original idea about another linksys node to to expand the network has gone wobbley

does anyone have any ideas how to get around this problem ????

If you don't get a response here there is a ESP_NOW expert on the Micropython forum ... might be worth asking the question there as well.
