Re: ESP32-S31-Function-CoreBoard-1
Hi Rudy,
Both components were intentionally left unpopulated to accommodate any potential future requirements:
Top left: corresponds to C10 (marked as NC in the datasheet)
Middle right: corresponds to R11 (marked as NC in the datasheet)
You may find the details here: https://documentation.espressif.com/esp ... eet_en.pdf

Re: ESP32-S31-Function-CoreBoard-1
Hi everyone,
just wanted to let you know that there’s a lot more available for testing now.
As of yesterday, my workbench is sporting another highlight: the H16R16V variant. (ESP32-S31-WROOM-3)
We’ll see where things go over the next few weeks. I’m really excited.
The technical specs look like a real treat—it has everything you actually need.
This could be a real winner. Initial tests have already been very promising.
The "pre-final" retail version looks great (featuring a metal shield), and the packaging is incredibly classy, too.
I haven't powered it up yet; I need to clear some space on my workbench first. It looks very high-end; the PCB is a sophisticated, double-sided design. The mounting holes are symmetrically balanced, offering plenty of flexibility for custom enclosures. Plus, the 40-pin header is compatible with the ESP-S3-LCD-EV-Board-SUB1, 2, and 3. The USB-A (2.0 HS-HOST) port opens up all sorts of possibilities. 1Gbps Ethernet—what a great time to be doing this. And it’s all based on RISC-V with an Sv32 MMU.
Guys, this is going to be huge!
NEG: It’s a shame that, for the moment, you can only buy one/buyer. It comes from the official Espressif store on AliExpress.
PRO: I got one
)))
Happy coding
best wishes

Re: ESP32-S31-Function-CoreBoard-1
I got mine in the other day as well. I agree with rudi on the board.
My only concern is the Ethernet PHY IC they chose to use. I would have though they could/ should have use a more common Ethernet PHY IC. The one on my board is by far the hottest part on the whole board. I didn't do a temp reading, just the ole finger test and just sitting there without transferring and data it's very, very warm. So much so that I would be concerned about using it in the real world in an industrial setting.
I also noticed they did not use castellated pins on the ESP32-S31-WROOM-3 module. One one end i get it, but on the other it made it so easy for prototyping, and scoping pins.
