I want to encrypt the ESP32 and unfortunately I am confused about the manual:

There is another manual, is this working in your opionion or are there some configurations missing?

Hi Alex,

Espressif doesn't develop platform.io, it's developed and supported by the platform.io team. I'm sure their documentation is solid, but you'll have to ask them about the specifics and any issues that crop up.

If you plan to use ESP-IDF and not platform.io then the ESP-IDF documentation (first link) is probably the correct documentation to use.

If you can give more details about what you're aiming for, what ESP-IDF version(s) you are using, and the problems you're finding with the documentation then we can try to help you out.
