Also, rates near 1MBaud, like you use, are pretty finnicky to push through unbalanced, un-terminated lines. You may just be running into the limits of your hardware.

esp32 watterott - nano32 board support 3Mbit
with esptool.py (msys32 esptool_py and windows ) no problem to flash with 2Mbit and 3Mbit and a custom baudrate

( *nix cp driver have a problem over 2MB )


btw: esptool.py support 2Mbit and custom baudrate in menuconfig
but windows Flash_download_tool is only 1152000

- please add backup function ( backup the full flash to one combine binary )
or please open the source again like in the past and we do by self
