It's because A. we don't want to have our competitors have insight in what our plans or status is in this type of chip, and 2. we're a publicly traded company now and I'd have our internal IR people come down on me like a bag of bricks if I were to disclose stuff that influences investors. Hence my noncommittal response. That has the unfortunate side-effect of leaving you guys in the dark, which I do regret, but that's the way it is unfortunately.

Also, feel free to post that you really want a chip like this, but in this particular case I'm afraid it won't really change anything on a company scale of things. If you actually have a product in mind where you can commit to buying lots (as in: hundreds of thousands) of these chips, I'd suggest you get directly into contact with us (through your account manager or sales@espressif.com) and perhaps you can get more information or apply pressure that way. (Note I'm saying 'in this particular case' as we do tend to at least listen to the forum; for instance USB made it into the ESP32S2 partially because the ESP32.com members indicated there was a demand for that.)

@ESP_sprite: I'd actually like company official roadmap info. Nothing that would risk you a bag of brick.

Right now, espressif might be blinding competitors, but they are also misleading customers to think something is coming, while there is apparently nothing.

Okay, seems marketing made a bit more information publicly available on the Chinese interwebs, so I'm feeling at liberty to share it here as well. We've just announced a chip that's called the ESP32-C5, which is (unsurprisingly, otherwise I wouldn't post it here) dual-band; both 5GHz as well as 2.4GHz. It's got a RiscV processor, like the -C3, and integrates WiFi6 and BLE. From what I recall, the peripheral set etc is going to be similar to the C3, so it's certainly usable as a standalone IoT device, but we also added fast SDIO and USB in order to make it usable with a host processor. Just to set expectations: note that this is a product announcement; as with chips we announced in the past it may take a while from now to when chips are widely available.

Are you able to tell us if there will be PSRAM support or more internal RAM than the C3?
I feel like adding 5GHz would allow for streaming which requires larger buffers.
