Initiating a2dp connection from sink to prior source

I have been able to create a bluetooth a2dp app and stream sound from my mobile phone to the attached speaker on my esp32 board. Does anyone know how to initiate the connection from the sink to the phone ? I have been able to save the prior connection bda in non volatile memory for later use when attempting to reconnect, I tried using esp_a2d_sink_connect routine, the return cod was ESP_OK,
But the phone didn't see the connection. Not sure if I'm calling the connect routine at the right time. I am calling it after esp_a2d_sink_init is finished. Thanks for any ideas!
