Trying to run Micropython on esp32s3 QEMU

Postby jackland » Wed Apr 09, 2025 5:28 pm

Hi,

This maybe a daft idea, but I'm trying to run Micropython on qemu-system-xtensa with machine esp32s3 so I can experiment with NVS encryption on secure boot without risking bricking actual devices by burning the wrong fuses on physical devices.

The emulation starts but, according to gdb, gets stuck at line 250 in esp-idf/components/esp_system/port/cpu_start.c, which seems to be waiting for core 1 to start (please see below). I've tried various things including configuring FreeRTOS to Unicore in the build, but it always gets stuck here.

The version of qemu is from esp_develop_9.0.0_20240606.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Bob
