ESP32 S3 USB port not showing in windows

Postby esisartest » Thu May 22, 2025 3:22 pm

Hello, I am using an esp32 s3 FH4R2 in my PCB. I want to be able to flash via USB. I am able to flash via uart and and uart to usb adapter however i can't make USB be detected.

Things i have tried :
Checking power lines
Connecting a VBUS to a GPIO
Installing tiny USB and configurating it in menu config

If i understand correctly we need to flash a first time via UART and activate USB CDC as such.

Here is my main code that i am testing for the relevant USB functions:

void app_main(void)
{
const tinyusb_config_t partial_init = {
.device_descriptor = NULL, // Use the default device descriptor specified in Menuconfig
.string_descriptor = NULL, // Use the default string descriptors specified in Menuconfig
.external_phy = false, // Use internal USB PHY
#if (TUD_OPT_HIGH_SPEED)
.fs_configuration_descriptor = NULL, // Use the default full-speed configuration descriptor according to settings in Menuconfig
.hs_configuration_descriptor = NULL, // Use the default high-speed configuration descriptor according to settings in Menuconfig
.qualifier_descriptor = NULL, // Use the default qualifier descriptor, with values from default device descriptor
#else
.configuration_descriptor = NULL, // Use the default configuration descriptor according to settings in Menuconfig
#endif // TUD_OPT_HIGH_SPEED

};

ESP_ERROR_CHECK(tinyusb_driver_install(&partial_init));

const tinyusb_config_cdcacm_t acm_cfg = {
.usb_dev = TINYUSB_USBDEV_0,
.cdc_port = TINYUSB_CDC_ACM_0,
.rx_unread_buf_sz = 64,
.callback_rx = NULL,
.callback_rx_wanted_char = NULL,
.callback_line_state_changed = NULL,
.callback_line_coding_changed = NULL
};
ESP_ERROR_CHECK(tusb_cdc_acm_init(&acm_cfg));

ESP_ERROR_CHECK(esp_tusb_init_console(0));

Am i missing something here? Open to any tips

Yes.

ESP32-S2/S3 can use USB CDC.

To use this function, you need to write firmware that enables this function.

Writing firmware that enables USB-CDC and resetting will enable USB-CDC, and from then on you will be able to write using GPIO19/20.

Hi ,thanks for your input. I have tried to put that option of console output but the result is the same.
Do you have any other idea?
