USB doesn't work after soldering pins :(

Postby norbertc » Sat May 31, 2025 11:52 am

Hello,
recently I"ve started using esp32 s3 dev-kit from waveshare. When I first connected it to my computer everything was fine. Next, I soldered goldpins to the esp. Everything was still ok. Shortly after that I recognized that some of goldpins are soldered badly. I decided to improve them. Nextly, when I connected the board to my computer the esp didn't work. My computer didn't notice the board too.

In my view the usb port on the esp is somehow broken. Do you know how to repare this? What should I do? I wonder about removing goldpins or buying usb-uart converter to be able to send any code onto esp.

Plesae help :(

ps.
ESP is still working when I provide power from external 5V battery set, so the issue must be caused by usb port.

You probably have a short or something between the pins, you can use a multimeter to check that. Specifically check around GPIO19/20, those are the USB pins.

There is no connection between pins except for gnd and 3v3 ones.

Ok, I found something. When I provide power from other source than my computer and connect esp to the pc via usb, the esp is detected! It looks like there is a problem with ensuring power by usb port. Any ideas how to fix that?
