trying to install esp-idf with vscode in my only arch-installed laptop

Postby ashish31207 » Sat Dec 13, 2025 3:02 pm

i m complete newbie in esp-idf an have a bit of knowledge in c/c++
my laptop is a very old , one with arch-linx as operating system
before installing espidf i was using platform-io for a better intellisence and cpp support
later decided to migrate to esp-idf , and ran into many issues

first this
The path for ESP-IDF is not valid: /tools/idf.py not found.
even tough i have the whole toolchain working within command line but not properly with vscode
i was trying to fix some issues ,

firstly i installed esp-idf from paru
then i went to vscode and installed teh estenssion
created a new project ,
at first i was unable to select teh terget as eso32 c6 or any target (error was something like File , espected a string but gievn undefined )
tehn i tried to select tehsame through idf.py and it workded !
then after some more errors , i found that my idf-extenssion installation has problems, as i never really installed it through vscode
then tried configure it through "find insatllation on the system " option and encountered this error , the path for espidf is not valid

Try running "source <path-to-idf-framework>/export.sh" before starting VS code from the same terminal.
