ESP-PROG via FT Prog shows empty flash

Postby ridgerunnersjw » Tue Dec 16, 2025 3:33 am

Hello.
I purchased an ESP-PROG from Amazon. Using FT Prog I see

FT Prog reading ESP-PROG

I would like to know where I can get the file for loading onto this chip

Thanks

I'm assuming that you understand that the FT2232 USB<>UART bridge device is capable of interfacing to a serial flash device - and that's provisioned on the ESP-PROG board, and typically will be empty? The use of that device is entirely to configure the FT2232 device, and is programmed within the FT-PROG utility. If you're interested in modifying that, then grab the FT2232 data sheet from FTDI and understand the configuration options of the FT2232, noting that you may change the behaviour of the ESP-PROG board in the process.

Most people will not need to configure this flash device. For clarity, it has no bearing on the behaviour of any ESP target system.

Kind regards, and Happy New Year.

To second summats post above: You do not need anything to be in this flash. This flash is provided in the design for those who want to configure the FTDI chip on the board for particular use cases, but it's not needed for normal use.
