ESP32-S31 USB support

Postby rsaxvc » Wed Jun 24, 2026 10:04 pm

At https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp ... evice.html, it shows "1 USB Full-Speed (USB 1.1) peripheral with internal PHY" - this is just a docs issue right? It's USB 2.0 high speed right?

Yep, should be high-speed.

Remember that it's not necessarily hooked up in a useful way on various dev boards, too.

Korvo plumbs that USB_C connector ... to a stinking Silicon Labs 2102 UART like it's 1990. OK, it's fast by 1990 standards, but it's still fundamentally a serial port. Forget multiple endpoints, JTAG, or target mode and you can sure forget about host mode.

The "high speed" (circa 2002) connection is to a USB-A connector, meaning you cannot use Korvo as a high speed target; only as a master. Attach your keyboard or thumb drive to Korvo and expect high speed (well, not with a keyboard...) but high speed to your computer, such as for uploads or managing the device itself or its onboard SD like a mass storage? Nope.

Giving up JTAG over USB is a drag.

Once the device leaves the ES stage, we should see boards making different tradeoffs of how the peripherals using the GPIO pins are plumbed to the outside world.
