Excellent idea! As for 3rd party boards, the Sparkfun "Thing" series and Adafruit "Feather" series boards seem to be the most popular. If I can find time, I might be able to help.

Some of Sparkfun's and Adafruit's boards are a good candidates, widely used by the Community. We will investigate this and we can work on this together!
