ESP-IDF integration of other SDKs

I'm exploring the esp32c3 ecosystem and developing an app at the same time.
I'm now exploring the rainmaker sdk and haven't found any information about integrating rainmaker or any other sdks with the ESP-IDF.
I've discovered that I need to either export the "RMAKER_PATH" environment variable in my ESP-IDF build environment or edit the top level CMakeList.txt to point to the path to the rainmaker sdk.
Everything else works so well I would have expected advice on how to unpack the Rainmaker zip file into the ESP-IDF.

Is there a special way to install the Rainmaker sdk for seamless integration with ESP-IDF?
