Why no recent esp-idf wifimanager available ?

I'd like to use a reliable wifimanager for esp-idf but the main one available is around 8 years old. I've tried it and it's not reliable. Why is the wifimanager provisioning so hard to get right ? Does anybody have a recent wifimanager for esp-idf that supports hardcoded and wifimanager setup reliably ? Thanks.
