ESP32-C5 location support

Postby ArcRiley » Fri May 15, 2026 5:22 am

I'm trying to verify AI claiming some odd information about ESP32-C5 location support.

Apparently it doesn't (yet) have support for 802.11mc but does have support for 802.11az. I have not been able to verify this and the urls offered were not hallucinations but were either 404s or easily misconstrued GitHub links.

Also it offered to information about whether it could offer 802.11az support, such as "mesh beacons" based on ESP32-C5.

I don't want to resort to abandoning 5ghz only because the documentation isn't easy to find. If I drop to ESP32-C6 apparently I would get 802.11mc for 1-2 meter accuracy but sub-meter accuracy requires 5ghz with 802.11az which is not widely supported by routers yet.

And I would assume we need to wait for cm scale location accuracy using wifi 7 with the esp32-c7 - pure speculation -c7 for the clever naming.

Can someone clarify this mess?
